need to knows

before your appointment

Anxious? Don’t know where to start? We’ve all been there! Here is a simple breakdown of what you need to know…

  • Contact us, email is best. info@daytrippertattoo.ca

  • We answer emails during shop hours. In your email let us know size (L” x W”), detail level, & location. Any photo reference you have is appreciated.

  • Unsure of what you want? Need a cover up or looking for large scale custom work? These appointments will require a consultation first. Email the shop & we can set one up. Consulations are free & around 30 minutes.

  • At the end of your consultation, we’ll book your appointment (we work Tuesday to Saturday: 11ish-7ish). Sometimes more research is essential to refine your idea for your tattoo & a secondary consultation is needed.

  • When booking an appointment, a deposit is required (we acccept etransfers, cash, debit or credit). Deposits are not refundable. They pay for your spot to be held in our books, cover some of the costs of preparing your tattoo (drawing time), & come off the cost of your final tattoo appointment. *if multiple sessions are needed

  • Once your appointment is booked, make sure you show up. Need to reschedule? We require 48 hours notice. If you don’t provide us with 48 hours notice or you no-show your appointment, you lose your deposit. If you let us know in time, your deposit will transfer to your next appointment. *within 1 year

  • Although we prefer appointments, walk-ins are welcomed when time is available. Please check our social media for updates.

  • We do not send out our artwork prior to the appointment. If there are small changes, we can make those on the spot. Large changes will require a rescheduled appointment & an additional deposit.

  • Get a good nights rest, drink lots of water & eat something before hand.

  • Bring your positive pants if possible!

  • Parking is around the back of the building.

at the appointment

  • You’ll be greeted, shown your design for approval & asked to fill out a waiver. Please bring photo ID.

  • A stencil of your approved design will be made & placed. Take a look in the mirror to make sure everything is placed correctly. Sometimes a stencil has to be moved, replaced or resized, that is totally okay, this is not our first rodeo.

  • Once the placement is approved your artist will set up their equipment & go over any safety protocols. The artist will also make sure you are feeling ready & comfortable prior to starting the tattoo.

  • We currently do not require clients & staff to wear a mask at Daytripper Tattoo. However if it makes you feel more comfortable, we are happy to put one on.

  • Buckle up & enjoy the trip!

  • During your tattoo if you have to pee, gotta stretch, or just need a minute, that is okay. Just ask your artist, they like breaks too!

  • We like to chat. If you prefer to put headphones in & zone out just let us know, otherwise let’s have a conversation. Topics may include cats, nostalgia, current binges, monsters & how many birds visited your bird feeder.

  • Once your tattoo is finished, take it for a test drive & look in the mirror. Your artist may request to take a couple of photos, then we will get you bandaged up & go over tattoo aftercare.

  • We accept payment in cash, Etransfer, debit or credit. Cash is always preferred. We are a real business, we pay our employees & we charge taxes.

  • Zero tolerance will be paid to rude, small-minded, aggressive behaviour. No one is forcing you to get tattooed here. Don’t be a prick.

end of appointment & aftercare

  • We use a medical grade transparent bandage called Saniderm. Our artists find this product reduces healing time by up to two weeks, among other benefits to your tattoo. If you have skin sensitivity to medical adhesives we have alternative options.

  • Keep the Saniderm bandage on for 12-24hrs. If you see liquid inside the Saniderm - its suppose to be there! If the liquid starts leaking out of the bandage before the 12-24 hours it is time to take it off.

  • Remove the Saniderm by finding an edge of the bandage and pull it back over itself in the direction of hair growth.

The shower is the ideal place to remove Saniderm. Running water will help loosen the adhesive & relax the skin, making the removal much more comfortable. The process may take upwards of 15 minutes, don’t rush it.

*Dry removal of Saniderm may cause discomfort and added trauma to the skin, which will make your tattoo unhappy.

  • Discard the used bandage & wash the tattoo with a mild antibacterial soap, preferably fragrance-free.

  • Allow your tattoo to air dry or pat dry with a clean towel.

  • Wash your tattoo 2-3 times a day for the next 3 weeks. Once your scabs are gone & skin is shiny, apply the smallest amount of unscented lotion (less is more). Products like Aquaphor, Webers or Aveeno work very well.

  • It is highly suggested to avoid swimming, sunbathing, contact sports & don’t let your dog lick it. Keep it clean, keep it dry, don’t pick your scabs, you’ll regret it.

  • Remember you are healing something, take good care of it! When in doubt, give us a shout.
